Lillian's Cottage

Description

Lillian’s Cottage is a comfortable 2 bedroomed cottage which sleeps 4 people. Having one Double and one Twin bedroom, it is suitable either for two Couples or a Family. (A cot is available). There are good handrails throughout which make Lillian's suitable for those with reduced mobility and there are stair-gates at the top and bottom of the stairs for the safety of families with toddlers. The cottage is in the heart of the beautiful Dartmoor village of Dunsford. A gate from the pavement leads into the walled, paved courtyard garden - ideal for outdoor dining. From there a door opens on to a roomy and light kitchen with electric cooker, microwave and fridge. (A washer drier and a small freezer are to be found in the utility room at the back of the courtyard) The kitchen opens into the living room with exposed beams and inglenook fireplace which still has the original bread-oven. There are comfortable chairs and settee, Television with DVD player and an extendible dining table. Off the living room is a cloakroom with a WC. Up the stairs (good handrails) are a two bedrooms, a double and a twin, (good height beds at 23inches from the floor) a bathroom and a separate shower room(rails by bath, loo and shower). Dunsford lies inside the Dartmoor National Park and many of its houses are of traditional cob and thatch. Here the River Teign emerges from its moorland course at Steps Bridge - half a mile from the village – and flows from the thickly wooded Teign Valley. Upstream from Steps Bridge the scenery is spectacular with Lutyens Castle Drogo (National Trust) crowning the Gorge above the renowned beauty spot of Fingle Bridge. To the West of Dunsford the road climbs up through woods to Moretonhampstead – 15 mins, a small Dartmoor town and the open moor. Here there are several restaurants, shops and a well stocked small supermarket. Needless to say, the whole area is a walkers' and riders' paradise. The village itself clusters around the ancient church of St. Mary, and in 2010 won the award for best kept village in Devon. Dunsford has kept its village shop and Post Office wonderfully run by Karen. It has a pub and a beautiful walled garden restaurant where diners can sample tasty day-time meals and pre-book for an evening meal when they may bring their own wine. (no corkage charged!) The village repair garage still sells petrol! Lying off the Exeter – Moretonhampstead road, there is little through traffic allowing walkers and horse riders to enjoy the calm of our high hedged Devon lanes. Guests will usually be able to park directly outside Lillian's but occasionally a few yards either up or down the road. Dunsford is a quiet village whose cottages were built in an era when transport was either horse drawn or on foot rather than 4 wheels! There is no Wi-fi inside the cottage. There are some "Hot Spots" around the village for mobile phone frequency. (For the comfort of all our visitors, Lillian's Cottage is a no smoking and pet free establishment)

North Devon

From the vast unspoilt expanses of Exmoor to its endless sandy beaches and charming seaside towns and villages, North Devon makes for the perfect cottage holiday getaway. Discover the beauties of this tranquil landscape for yourself with one of Go2's holiday lets or cottages in North Devon. Wild and rugged, Exmoor is great for walking, riding and cycling. This is Lorna Doone country, where farmers have battled the elements for centuries. The coastline here is truly spectacular and is a real highlight. Walk the Coastal Path, and you’ll be treated to stunning views of high cliffs dropping straight to the sea, or to small coves far below. Beach lovers will also enjoy a holiday in North Devon. Resorts like Woolacombe and Saunton offer long stretches of sandy beach that are ideal for surfing and sailboarding. Clovelly is a real beauty spot, and very picturesque, while Appledore is a picture-perfect fishing village. Ilfracombe is a more traditional seaside resort, but is not overly-commercialised, while the twin towns of Lynton and Lynmouth have an atmosphere all their own. Don’t miss the wonderful water-powered funicular railway here.

South Devon

Justly famous as one of England’s finest destinations, South Devon has everything you need for the perfect cottage holiday. Go2 has an extensive collection of holiday lets and cottages in South Devon, all ideally located for the many attractions on offer here. The fabulous coastline, stretching from Sidmouth to Plymouth is the main draw here. There are glorious beaches, mysterious estuaries, rugged cliffs and sandy coves to explore, as well as the famous English Riviera. Taking in the resorts of Torquay, Paignton and Brixham, it offers all the facilities you need for a great seaside cottage holiday. Or if you prefer somewhere quieter on one of our South Devon holidays, there are the Georgian charms of Sidmouth, or Salcombe, long a favourite with sailors. Inland, you can get away from it all in the rugged splendours of Dartmoor National Park or just enjoy the rolling hills and rural delights of the South Devon countryside. Make time for a visit to Exeter, the bustling capital of the region, with its cathedral, cobbled streets and wide selection of shops. Or step back in time to the Elizabethan age in Totnes with its charming tudor houses.
